What is Bellafill?
Bellafill is a type of FDA-approved dermal filler approved to treat acne scars. Other dermal fillers use hyaluronic acid to plump skin. Instead, Bellafill uses a collagen-based substance called polymethyl-methacrylate (PMMA), a semi-permanent filler with many cosmetic applications, to add volume, lift, and smooth out acne scars.
After Bellafill has been injected under the skin, your body’s natural collagen production is stimulated, building more tissue around the filler. The result? A naturally smoother, younger-looking complexion!
How does Bellafill help acne scars?
Acne scars are a result of your skin’s response to the bacteria, dead skin cells, and inflammation acne lesions cause. The bacteria that trigger acne can seep out of the affected pore into the surrounding skin tissue, causing a mild infection.
When this happens, your body’s immune system sends white blood cells to the tissue to fight off the infection. As these micro warriors battle the acne-causing bacteria, they sometimes damage the surrounding skin tissues, leaving a depressed scar.
Bellafill adds volume to the depressed areas of skin, bringing back fullness to the area and giving you a smooth skin surface for up to five years. This dermal filler works best on depressed types of scarring and is safe for all skin colors and skin types.
What can I expect during and after a Bellafill treatment?
After your provider at Sublime Aesthetic Professionals evaluates your skin condition and medical history and determines you’re a good candidate for Bellafill, they will apply a topical numbing cream to the treatment areas. The amount of filler you need depends on the severity of your scarring and skin goals.
Bellafill is then injected into the depressed acne scars to restore fullness and volume to the area. Immediately following treatment, your skin may be tender and a little red. Depending on your scars and goals, we may recommend an additional treatment to fully eradicate your scars.
You can expect your Bellafill results to last for at least one year or longer in many cases. Even if you choose not to receive booster treatments, the PMMA left behind will continue to support the structure of your skin, helping improve the appearance of your scars for good.
