What is PRP, or platelet-rich plasma?

Your blood primarily consists of a liquid called plasma and it also contains small solid components: red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. The platelets are the important part. Platelets play a role in blood clotting, but they also have growth factors that are highly beneficial in boosting cell regeneration and healing injuries.

PRP is plasma that’s platelet-rich and contains more platelets than what’s normally present in your blood. The platelet-rich plasma is obtained through a special process (centrifugation) used to concentrate the growth factors until they’re five to 10 times richer than normal.

Platelet-rich plasma therapy (PRP) is a treatment that was originally designed to accelerate your body’s natural healing process. The many benefits and uses of this natural treatment method were quickly noted and PRP is now a form of regenerative medicine used in a number of medical fields, including aesthetics.

PRP is used for treating arthritis, hair restoration, and for aiding tissue healing during some surgeries.

How does PRP work for skin rejuvenation?

In the cosmetics and anti-aging world, PRP can be used to fill in areas of lost volume in the face.  PRP stimulates cell regeneration and the production of elastin and collagen for a more youthful-looking complexion longer term.

When injected into specific areas, such as the lines or circles under the eyes, or where a loss of volume in the jaw area is present, the PRP restores volume and rejuvenates your skin.

To obtain the PRP, your Sublime provider draws your blood and separates and concentrates the platelets in a special centrifuge device. Once the centrifugation process is complete, your provider carefully merges the increased concentration of platelets with the remaining blood and injects it into the target area. Multiple injections can usually be administered during one convenient session.
